What Food Supply Chain News Means to You and Your Restaurant

Today’s economy is driven by consumer demand, which means that staying informed about the forces driving the food industry is leverage, especially for small and medium-sized restaurants.

After having served the restaurant industry for nearly a decade, we know that one of the greatest challenges in managing a restaurant business is predicting supply and demand trends and understanding procurement challenges.

We are the only distributor with transparent prices. By showing our prices publicly on our app, every customer pays the same price. We don’t discriminate and charge more for a small customer, or for a customer who might not be able to buy from a different distributor.

Our goal has always been to help our customers thrive and one way we do that is by giving you access to reliable, honest information so that you can make informed choices about your business. This is what our bi-weekly Market Watch is all about – arming you with the insight you need to make smart decisions based on competitive intelligence, news, and information.

What’s inside the Market Watch?

Every other week we deliver the latest news, emerging trends, technologies and best practices, forward thinking ideas and cutting-edge solutions directly to your inbox.

This is the best way to stay informed on upcoming food and agriculture trends and challenges related to produce, proteins, grocery and more. You get a glimpse into everything that’s happening right now in weather, seasonality, labor and transportation.

Knowing what you need in order to satiate the consumer demand for variety, quality, and year round availability is the best way to get an edge over your competition. We’re here to do the research for you and to help you foresee bottlenecks in farm labor, processing, transport and logistics challenges, as well as momentous shifts in demand.

Meet Our Food Supply Chain Specialist

Chef Nate Lopez earned his culinary degree from the California Culinary Academy and also his degree in Nutritional Science from San Francisco State University and a Six Sigma certification focused on improving menus and operational efficiencies in restaurants. He climbed quickly up the ranks to chef at the prestigious Ritz Carlton San Francisco.

Chef Nate joined Cheetah in 2019 as part of our Procurement Team. Since then, he’s been educating restaurants on how to deal with their most pressing inventory issues and showing customers how to use Cheetah’s extensive inventory, alternative vendors and creative inventory ideas to improve their business.

We Practice What We Preach

The bi-weekly Market Watch is not the only way Cheetah helps restaurants stay up-to-date on the most important food industry issues and news. The Cheetah app is also a source of information where the prices are an honest reflection of market prices.

We thrive when our customers thrive, which is why we would never raise prices unless the entire market is up. Not only do our customers love us for this, but they also find it useful to check the prices on our app to learn about the current shifts in the food supply chain.

Typically, a wholesale distributor rep might lure restaurants with the promise of cheap prices, but they can’t keep that up for long because the market is dynamic. Or they sell a specific product at a loss just to earn a business and, later on, make up their profits by jacking up the prices without notifying or explaining the change to the customer.

At Cheetah we believe that transparency and a trust-based relationship between restaurant and distributor is key to long-term success of both our businesses. We offer our prices as another source of information to our customers, not as a way to maximize our own profit.  Our customers trust us and know that our prices fluctuate with the market and we will never harm that trus by trying to maximize our profits in the short-term.
